OUR COUNSELLING

People of all ages can benefit from counselling support when they are struggling. The team at Clearview Counselling includes therapists who specialize in supporting children, youth, families, and parents.

Kids don’t communicate the way adults do. Often children show the people around them that they are struggling rather than using words to communicate. While it makes sense that children may not know how to express themselves, they are still learning after all, this can lead to confusion and frustration for their parents as they try to interpret what their child needs.

5 common signs that a child is struggling:

  • Changes to Behaviour, Personality or Interests – If you notice changes to your child’s behaviour, personality, or interests that concern you and persist over time, it may be a sign your child is struggling.
  • Disruption to Daily Life – When a child’s behaviour or emotional distress begins to create challenges that impact daily life for either themselves and/or their parents, it may be time to consult with a children’s therapist.
  • Regression – Sometimes when children are struggling, they may seem to go backwards on things that they used to be able to do. This may include returning to baby talk, bed-wetting or toileting concerns after potty training has been achieved, decreased independence, or disrupted sleep patterns. While this may be caused by natural factors such as a growth spurt or a stressful event, it may be a cause for concern if the regression persists or begins to cause significant distress for the child or the parent
  • Concerning Play – Children often work out their feelings and express their concerns through their play. If you notice that your child’s play has changed or themes are arising in their play that concern you, you may benefit from discussing these concerns with a children’s psychologist.
  • Unexplained physical symptoms that appear to be connected to stress – Sometimes children experience their stress or concerns physically in the form of stomach aches, headaches, and other aches and pains. If you have explored your child’s physical symptoms with your doctor and no physical explanation appears to exists, they may be connected to your child’s level of stress.

  • Communication
  • Conflict resolution
  • Negative behavior
  • Interaction patterns
